It was a beautiful day for a race: 40 degrees, partly sunny and 15mph winds.
Rob and I had a friend’s party the night before and were out pretty late for a pre-race night. I didn’t wake up with a spring in my step this morning, but I did want to get out there and race.
This 5K race is in a park and has slight incline in the first mile and a mile or more of the race on grass, which today was very soft and muddy. I felt my effort level rise when we got to the grass because it just feels like every step is absorbed and takes more effort. I didn’t even look at my Garmin during this time because I knew all I could do was my best to push through. My sunglasses steamed up at the end so I couldn’t even read the clock as we came in. So I was very happy when I could see my time once I hit the finish.
I got a new PR!!!
Rob also got a new PR!! He finished in 24:48
Plus I got 2nd in my Age Group!
My Splits:
Mile 1: 7:48
Mile 2: 8:29 (The grass was very challenging)
Mile 3.1: 8:18 (7:32 pace)
Time: 24:32
Splits: 7:54
My Stats:
F 30-34: 2/13
Overall: 57/147
Now I just need to rest up for tomorrow’s race. The weather doesn’t look like it will be as nice. Then after tomorrow I’m officially in taper mode.
