Movie Night

Workouts:

Monday (10/17):

5 Miles Easy (Treadmill, 42:21, 8:29 Pace)

9.2 Bike Easy (Trainer, 40:00, 13.8 mph)

Tuesday (10/18):

4 Miles Easy (Treadmill, 35:14, 8:49 Pace)

Tonight after work Rob and I helped out with Often Running’s movie night. Every year they host a running movie at the historic uptown Normal Theater. This year’s movie was Lady Warriors. ORRT accepts food donations for the mission as admittance. The area school track and cross-country teams attend with their coaches, some of them who are on ORRT. The make up most of the crowd, but the community and the local running club also attend. adidas sponsors the event which means lots of cool freebies for attendees (socks, shirts, headbands, etc.) and drawings for free shoes.

After the movie part of our team walked over to Medici for a drink before heading home.

It was such a nice night, I just wish it was the weekend!

  1. Hey, I saw you ran the Mercedes Half Marathon last year. Found your blog from google and I love it. totally inspiring! Anyways, I’m considering running it this year, and it will be my first marathon. (I’ve done 5 halfs and it’s time to push on, ya know?)

Do you recommend this one for my first marathon? How is the course? Are you allowed to have an ipod? thanks for your help!

    1. Hi Mekelle! I actually ran the Full Marathon at Mercedes Marathon in 2010. Here is the link: http://flyrunner.wordpress.com/2010/02/15/mercedes-marathon-2010/
It was my second marathon and I loved it! It was a two lap course and I actually liked that because the second lap I knew exactly how far away I was by feel since I had already been there before. Crowd support is low in parts so you have to be okay with quiet moments. I think they did allow music, but check the race website or email the director to be certain. I totally recommend doing a full marathon, especially with your background of 5 halfs completed. Long run training really enhances your strength and helps even your half marathon times.
Mercedes course is hilly, but if you are from an area of hills then it’s no biggie. I’m from a very flat part of IL so hills are not common and I have to make sure to hill train (by driving to other locations or incline on the treadmill).
Mercedes is where I got my first BQ and will always hold a special place in my heart. The medals are amazing and the after party was very nice! If you end up racing it please keep in touch and let me know how it goes! Enjoy your full marathon training!!
