Background – I thought I would keep a blog of when I knew I was pregnant to the time I announced it. I anticipate a lot of changes and feelings along the way and I don’t want to miss out on capturing them.
10.03.2012 – Day 1 of Knowing Officially
Agh! This is so amazing!!! So first, I knew something was up, but I thought it was just the start of the ole monthly time. I was SUPER crabby! Rob said I was so crabby I was all claws, but that at least crab claw meat is the sweetest. 🙂 I had been feeling really tired, fevery, bloated and irritable for a few days. But I ran a good half marathon the past Saturday (baby’s first half marathon – check!). So last night I just had a really off day, tired and grouchy I started my run on the treadmill and the treadmill broke! It has been acting janky, the belt has been dead stopping mid-run and the console otherwise looks fine. So then I threw on my Garmin and headed out the door. My legs were dead. I felt so sluggish that I bagged it after 2.5 miles and came inside to ride my bike for a bit. I felt so off that I thought I better take a test first thing in the morning and then BOOM! Our lives have completely changed and Rob and I will be meeting our new best friend in 9 months!!

The Chicago Marathon is this Sunday and I will be writing about it like any other race, but won’t be able to explain at the time that how I pace and how I feel is really cause I’m pregnant. Rob’s considering running with me. He’s worried that if I feel bad or anything that he wouldn’t be there to help me. So we have to talk about that. Plus Goofy Challenge is in January, which we will definitely run together. Without yet having my doctor appointment I suspect that I will be 4.5 months pregnant at the time.
10.09.2012 – Doctor officially confirms the news on 10.08!
10.07 – The Chicago Marathon didn’t go as planned. Mile 9 my right calf and hamstring were VERY tight and I knew the last 17 miles would be painful. As expected my pace slowed with each mile as it became a struggle. I made one potty stop at Mile 19 and the stopping running did make it even harder as my muscles tightened up more. The one thing that got me through it was knowing this was our baby’s first marathon. I wanted this race to be a story of prevailing and not giving up so I hobbled my way through the finish. Baby’s first marathon, done!
10.08 – It was practically high fives all around when Rob and I went to the doctor office. They were amazed by my age that I got pregnant so quickly. Rob and I had just started trying at the end of June and here we are having our talk about our baby! Based on dates we have guestimate that we are 5 weeks along and a tentative birth date of June 8th! How exciting!!! The medical personnel seemed amazed with my activity level and nutrition and really just say keep doing all the things I’m doing. I’m only told to stop activity if I notice cramping/bleeding, which seems like a no brainer. Also, I intend to not improve upon my fitness, but keep my workouts moderate at a conversational level. I’ve been foam rolling my calf and hamstring and it is improving. I may get a sports massage, but I’m hopeful I won’t need physical therapy. We will see if I’m able to run the Rock and Roll St. Louis Half Marathon in two weeks. Rob is going to run every race that I run with me through the rest of the pregnancy. He wants to be right there in case anything didn’t feel right. Our treadmill broke and we have an order in for a new console and belt. It will take probably 3 weeks before we have it working again so any running I do will be outside or at the gym for awhile.

10.27.2012 – 8 Weeks!
I’m barely fitting into my pants. My clothes can’t handle much more than a 5 pound weight gain and it’s going to be time to get new clothes.
Rob and I had a great time running Rock and Roll St. Louis Half Marathon even though my leg wasn’t ready for all of the hills. Plus we bought our first baby clothing item!
Rob and I also started getting a baby registry together! It’s a great way to make a list of things we need to get. Plus we get front row parking since I’m preggo. 🙂
Our 8 week doctor appointment is Monday! We can’t wait!!
10.29.2012 – First sonogram!
Sweet baby showed right up on the sonogram real quick! Heart beating at 162 BPM and we could see the head, arms, legs and little remainder of tail. 🙂 They say by length they guestimate 7 Weeks 6 Days, putting our estimated due date from June 8th to the 11th. We’ve heard these fluctuations in date estimates will occur along the way. 🙂
I haven’t gotten sick yet (knock on wood) and have only felt queasy a few times. Hopefully I will get by not getting fully sick.
My running has just been okay. I’m enjoying running and my legs feel good, but potty stops have taken over and I’m only able to make it 5-7 miles before needing to take a pit stop.
