Our First Year with Nash

I did not get monthly (or even quarterly) posts of Nash’s first year (like I did with Chase). Really after having Nash and going back to work the blog just became a low (or no) priority. I’m still deciding if and how much time I will have for blog posts now a days.

So to catch up on the amazing-ness of being a family of four and having Nash bless our lives here’s a recap of our first year with Nash Feb 29, 2016 to is first birthday. πŸ™‚

Nash was delivered via c-section because he was breech the entire pregnancy. Rob picked Leap Day for his birthday because we just thought it was fitting for a boy who was trying to enter the world bottom first. πŸ™‚ Turns out we ended up knowing two others in our town who also had Leap Day babies (not their plan), which with our town’s population I thought was pretty amazing. Here’s my post about Nash’s delivery.

Transitioning from one kid to two brought a lot of changes. I think Rob and I were much more ready on what to expect and handled all the baby things that come up well. The biggest adjustment was that we couldn’t tag team getting Chase ready in the morning, and bath and bed at night. Instead we were divided up man on man for those logistical moments. How people manage more than two I can’t even imagine. Hats off to you if you wrangle more than two kiddos. πŸ™‚ While it takes more time in those more task oriented moments, the pay off is seeing the love between Chase and Nash. It’s so awesome seeing how much ChaseΒ smothersΒ her brother in love. And it’s so fun to have dinner together at home and have two kids with dirty faces cracking each other up with their little games and sounds. It gives us a glimpse that this is just the beginning to their antics. πŸ™‚

Nash has been nothing but the opposite of his sister, which is cool. He’s his own dude and all boy. He goes to sleep easily most days, eats very well, and is very chill about day to day things. His smile is just so big and warm. He lights up the room with this giant smile when he’s a happy dude. However, when he is hungry, sleepy, or told ‘no’ he can’t stand it. His flare ups are epic and very physical, throwing his body weight around.

Nash does not like to sit and read books on end like his sister Chase. Instead he loves to throw and destroy things around the house. He is very interested in how things work and attempts to take things apart often. He’s always trying to pry open doors or cabinets, even with repeated ‘no’. Chase on the other hand only had to hear ‘no’ once or twice and never challenged what not to do. Nash LOVES sports. At this very early age he was very quick to learn to throw and catch a ball. It was amazing the first two times we took him swimming to splash around a bit. He leaned forward and started moving his arms, head, and feet just like a swimmer! We will be looking into swim teams in the future.

Nash is just the perfect ‘little’ man in our family. He was an infant for like a week and then turned into a giant over night. πŸ™‚ He has our hearts forever, we love him so much. πŸ™‚

Our baby girl is 1 year old!!

I can’t believe it, Chase is 1 year old!!! πŸ˜€ We are so excited that our baby girl is one year old! It’s amazing to look back a year ago our world was completely changed by this amazing little angel and here we are and she is already a year old!

A look back at June 11, 2013…

Β The day we met our sweet daughter

We had a wonderful time celebrating with friends and family the weekend before her birthday. First, Chase had all of her friends over to celebrate and then we had a nice relaxing lunch with family the next day. Here are some pictures.

Β Bounce house with slide that was even big enough for adults. It was so much fun!

Ombre purple cake with three flavors (top to bottom) – Cookies and Cream, Vanilla, Birthday Cake

Sugar Mama Bakery

Custom Grape Cotton Candy from Sweetopia Cotton Candy

Candy from Candy Warehouse, The Fresh Market, and Wal-Mart

Favor bags from The Paper Candy Shoppe

Cake pops also from Sugar Momma Bakery – White with purple drizzle is red velvet, purple with white drizzle is cookies and cream

Custom M&Ms with Chase’s Picture, her name, and others that said “1st Birthday”

For the sweets buffet we had cake, cake pops, cotton candy, lollipops, salt water taffy, pop rocks, rock candy, jelly beans, M&Ms, candy sticks, and hershey kisses.

Drink bin from Wal-Mart. Purple drinks included grape G2, sparkling grape drink, and grape Crush.

Chase woke up from her nap to find a party with about 40 friends over. Not every family has their child’s picture on out on the internet, so to respect their privacy I will limit posting photos of families to those whom have been on this blog before.

“Happy Birthday” Β and “Photo Booth” signs from A Banner Affair

We had an area set up in our study with some goofy photo props, where people to take a picture.

We had horse and carriage rides for everyone too.

All of the nicer photos were taken by professional photographer, Jamie. You can find her on Facebook: JLP Photography.

Picture from my phone on our carriage ride.

Chase’s “One” onesie and ombre purple tutu was from: PDS1113, her headband with little crown was from OnceUponATimeTuTus

We got Chase her own ‘smash cake’ cupcake. She isn’t a fan of being messy so she had a taste of frosting and a few bites of cake and was not really into much more than that.

Coco was even dressed up for the occasion with a purple bow. πŸ™‚

The following day we had family over for lunch. She had her second ‘smash cake’ and ate it the same way, very carefully so not to get messy. πŸ™‚ She wasn’t interested in being held much and wanted to keep practicing her walking skills. We did get a very quick picture of her with her cousin Mike and great grandma Ada.

It was such a special weekend to celebrate our little sweetheart.

Then on the big birthday we got up early to open presents with Chase. She wore her “birthday girl” shirt to daycare. After work we picked her up and took her out to dinner at Biaggi’s and bought her flowers. πŸ™‚

One of her presents was late, so we opened it when it arrived. Her first Tiffany’s, the Elsa Peretti Heart Baby Brush for her keepsake to keep as she grows up.

Chase’s 1 Year Milestones and Info

Chase started walking on June 6th! She started with a couple of steps that day and now does 4-6 at a time. She has 6 teeth (4 on top and 2 on the bottom), the last two popped in right after the 11 month post. From what we can tell there are no others yet ready to sprout.

Chase is sleeping so much better! During a week typically 5 nights she will sleep through and put herself back to sleep. A couple nights a week she stands fully up and needs a little water and rocking and goes back to sleep. This is a huge improvement from where we started!!

She is 29 inches long (44th percentile), 22 lbs 14 oz (88th percentile), and 18.5 inches head diameter (94th percentile).

She’s transitioned from baby food to table food and from formula to whole milk. She will enjoy a sippy cup with water, but we haven’t fully transitioned her milk to a sippy cup just yet.

When she talks she is very close to saying ‘dog’ when she sees Coco or another doggie, ‘hi’ or ‘bye’ when she waves, and ‘uh oh’ when she drops something. πŸ™‚

We can’t wait for what is next for this little girl. She is just a blessing and a joy. We love her so much!!

Chase 11 Months Old – Our Little Book-worm

Chase is 11 months old, which is so hard to believe! She’s got four teeth now and a couple more ready to pop through any day now!

Getting Chase to sit with the chalk board is proving more difficult every month. I plan to stop here at her one year birthday with making them so we are in the home stretch!

OMG I love that smile! And the laugh she makes just makes my heart jump. πŸ™‚

Baby Milestones

She’s such a happy baby all of the time. It’s been fun to take her out to different restaurants and go for walks. She really enjoys her surroundings and pointing at everything. A bonus has been that she has really good table manners. She feeds herself carefully and only starts to “race car” drive her food around when she’s close to finished. She will sign “all done”, which confirms she’s finished her meal. Chase hasn’t been a fan of her sippy cup until recently. We’ve been offering it with water and she’s shown little interest. Until one day she grabbed it and just started chugging away. Now she’s a sippy cup pro. We haven’t yet started putting her formula in it and will be working on that next. Plus we will start introducing whole milk soon too. Lots of big changes to come there!

She’s walking while holding on to the side of things like a table or chair. She won’t take our hands to walk just yet, but she will stand with no hands and look like she wants to take a step and then plops down on her bottom instead. πŸ™‚

She’s become such a book-worm! Chase will pick up a book and crawl to hand it to us and then curl up in our lap to have it read to her. We’ve been buying books like crazy because she can’t get enough. It’s been so fun that story time is something we do now multiple times a day. πŸ™‚

Chase is also loving dancing to music. It’s the sweetest thing to see her sitting rocking to music or standing up and bebopping up and down.

Every month just gets more and more fun with her!

Chase 10 Months Old – Springtime Fun

I’m late posting this, but Chase is 10 months old! She is just growing so fast! She’s getting so tall and is fitting into 12 month clothes already.

Baby Milestones

Milestones this month include: crawling up a storm, pulling herself up, standing no hands for a few seconds, pointing, waving hi/bye, and she has two teeth (one on the top and one on the bottom) and more that are about to pop through!

Baby Nutrition

Chase has been a really good eater. Around 9 months after she would finish her baby food we would introduce some easy finger foods. This month she has shown that she would prefer to feed herself so we start off her meals with finger foods and then follow up with baby food as needed to complete her meal. She is getting a lot more variety in finger foods too. Here are some example meals:

  • whole wheat pasta, steamed broccoli, pasterized goat cheese, steamed diced apple
  • scrambled egg, pancake, steamed diced apple
  • diced banana, toast, scrambled egg
  • diced turkey, mixed veggies
  • grilled cheese, diced avocado
  • diced sweet potato, fiesta corn (with green and red pepper)

She’s also enjoyed: soft pretzels, ham, egg noodles, and hawaiian rolls.

Springtime Fun

Springtime fun has included taking rides with her first trike (our Easter present to Chase).

Chase’s first time on a playground slide.

Chase’s first Easter, including visiting the Easter bunny, going to church, and lunch with family.

Chase did not like the Easter bunny, so I provided some interference.

We can’t wait to see what the next month holds!
